Teething Rings

Today’s Baby Thing Post is going to be about teething rings.  This one is more of a personal preference and depends on your baby.  Some babies breeze through teething so well that you don’t even realize it is happening until you see those little pearly whites make their appearance.  Other babies are not so lucky.  They are miserable and you are miserable.

My oldest really did not care for the teething ring at all.  He preferred to chew on a cold wet wash cloth or his pacifier.  So, when I had the other two kids I never even thought to try the teething rings.  I just went for the washcloth and pacifier.  I would also massage their gums.  You should really start brushing their teeth as soon as they start to come in.  I always used the rubber tooth brush/gum massager that goes on an adult’s finger.  My kids really loved that and it seemed to work well to relieve some of the pain.  I will admit that my kids did not seem to have a real hard time teething.  Only occasionally did they become irritable from it and not sleep well.  The nights that they did not sleep well we would give them baby Motrin or baby Tylenol and that would usually do the trick.

I recommend waiting until your baby actually starts teething and try the things I did or maybe some other tips that you have heard.  If your baby seems to be too uncomfortable then go ahead and give the teething ring a try.  Just be sure not to buy more than two in the beginning just in case your baby does not like them.

Teething rings are probably not a necessary baby thing.  They may be helpful depending on your baby, but you do not have to get one.
