Mommy Time

Mother’s Day is coming up, so I thought it would be appropriate to talk about something for mom. At some point during the day, you are going to need some much deserved Mommy Time. I was blessed with 3 fussy babies. Yes, all 3 were fussy. My oldest was your true definition of the colicky baby. My second had numerous health issues going on that made him miserable. My baby, well let’s just say at birth she already considered herself a princess that should be waited on at ALL times. What did that mean for me, a lot of crying (and I am not just talking about my babies)!

Baby 411! The Absolute Must Have Book For All New Parents!

Today’s post is going to be brief. If you only buy one book when you are having a baby make sure that Baby 411 is it. Baby 411 is a book by the authors of Baby Bargains and written with the help of Pediatrician Ari Brown. This book will pretty much answer any question you have during your baby’s first year of life. I really do not know what I would have done without it when I had my first. I even pulled it out when I had my second and third. I can honestly say this book is terrific and I LOVED it.

Diaper Pail, Do You Need One?

The Diaper Pail is exactly what the name says.  It is basically a garbage pail made for you to put diapers in.  There are a few companies that make them, and each is designed slightly different.  There are models that are hands free, some have an easy flip of a handle to get rid of the diaper and some have a lid that you lift up.  Many of them have bags or refills that you have to purchase that are designed for that particular diaper pail.

Baby Bouncers, Do You Really Need One?

Baby Bouncers are one of the baby items that I do recommend you purchase.  They typically do make your life easier.  I have found that babies seem to prefer these to the baby swings.  I do not know if it is easier for them to see you, but they just seem to like them.  All three of my kids really loved their baby bouncers.  In fact at one point we had two.

Swaddle Blankets, Do You Need This Baby Thing?

I highly recommend swaddling a newborn baby, but what kind of swaddle blankets should you use?

We swaddled all three of our kids.  In fact, we ended up swaddling our kids until they were each about 6 months old.  Most babies really do prefer to be swaddled.  They may resist at first, but you will see if the swaddle is done correctly they will calm down, will become relaxed, and will sleep longer stretches.  We tried a few of the blankets made for swaddling, but none of them worked for our children.  We ended up using a traditional square receiving blanket and when that became to small, I cut a soft cotton sheet to make a larger square blanket.  You see for a swaddle to actually work, the baby’s arms must stay pretty straight at his/her side.  Your baby should not be able to wiggle his/her hands out of that blanket.  I did find that many of those swaddle blankets just did not fit my children very well, and they would still be able to wiggle themselves to freedom.  Then of course they would wake up crying, and we would have to swaddle them all over again.

Baby Laundry Detergent, Is It Necessary?

There are a couple of brands that make laundry detergent specifically for your baby.   Baby laundry detergents usually have no scent to them or they have a very mild soft sent that is usually associated with baby smells.  They are also usually made with less ingredients than normal laundry detergents, that way they are less irritating for the baby’s skin.  However, they are also usually more expensive than other laundry detergents.

Baby Bargains! One Terrific Book!

One morning when I was pregnant with my first I was watching The Today Show.  They were doing a segment on this book called, “Baby Bargains” written by Denise and Alan Fields.  It is a book that rates the different brands for just about any baby product you can think of and compares prices.  The authors are a couple who have gone around the country checking out all the different baby products that they could find.  They really look at the quality and safety values for the price and them rate them in their book, so that you can get good safe products for your baby and not spend a fortune.
