This is a very important baby crib update. Just announced today, cribs with drop sides are no longer considered safe. It is now illegal to to sell them or resell them. If you are planning on purchasing a used crib or taking one from someone you know (which I don’t recommend anyway) do not take one with drop sides. For more information read this article.
Today, here at Baby Thing, we are going to talk about something more for Mommy than for Baby. Although Baby will enjoy it as well. Nursery Gliders, they are such a nice item to have. Is this a necessary baby thing? No, it is not, but I do LOVE mine and am so glad that I got it.
As I mentioned in my last post, today I will talk about Crib Toys. Crib toys were a big hit in my household. My boys really did not like their baby mobiles, but all three of my kids adored their Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Crib Toy.
Let’s talk baby mobiles. I think for most women when they fantasize about having a baby they can picture the adorable nursery all set up waiting for the little baby to come home and enjoy it. When they fantasize they picture the cute art on the wall, the crib and of course the adorable baby mobile hanging in the crib. I know that was always part of my fantasy.
A crib tent is basically a large net that you attach to your crib to prevent your child from falling out of the crib or to keep pets from jumping into the crib. They are rather expensive and my opinion is do not waste your money.
Todays parents have three types of crib mattresses to choose from when selecting the mattress for their child. You can go with a foam mattress, an innerspring mattress or an organic crib mattress. Today’s baby thing post will look at the differences and how to select a crib mattress for your baby.
Most people today use baby monitors so that they can always hear their baby when the baby is in another room. Now, you may think that I am crazy, but we have three different monitors in our house. One for each child. Believe it or not, but my 6 year old still calls us when he wakes up, he will not just get out of bed. Not to mention, he has awful night terrors and has started sleep walking, so I much prefer to be able to hear the noises coming from his room so that I know he is OK. Anyway, back to the point of my post today, you will probably want a baby monitor, but which kind is best for you?
So, you are setting up the nursery. You have the crib in one corner, and now you need the dresser. Unless your house has unbelievable amounts of closet space a baby dresser is an important baby thing to have. You will have lots of clothes, diapers, blankets etc. and you will need a place to keep it all.
Since your baby will need a place to sleep, I figured I would talk about cribs today. I recommend that you buy a new crib. You probably should not take a hand me down or purchase a used one. This is a matter of your baby’s safety. You could possibly be missing one small screw or other part that could cause problems or the crib may be so old that it does not meet the safety standards. Not to mention cribs have changed a lot in the past 2 years.
