Baby Mobiles, Does Your Crib Need One?
Let’s talk baby mobiles. I think for most women when they fantasize about having a baby they can picture the adorable nursery all set up waiting for the little baby to come home and enjoy it. When they fantasize they picture the cute art on the wall, the crib and of course the adorable baby mobile hanging in the crib. I know that was always part of my fantasy.
So, needless to say, when I found out I was expecting I picked the theme for my nursery and had to add the adorable baby mobile to the crib. Well, I have to say it looked cute in the nursery for the first six months and that was about it. My son really did not care about it at all. He did not find the music soothing, and as soon as he was sitting at six months he would grab at it to play with it. That was when we had to take it out. We were too afraid of him wrapping one of the strings around a body part and getting hurt when we were not in the room. Baby number two came and we gave it a shot again. Again the same thing happened. Actually, I think he liked it even less than my oldest. So, when we had baby number three, the cute crib mobile stayed packed away.
If you are looking to get a baby mobile to add to the decor of the room, by all means go for it. They are super cute and look adorable hanging over the crib. Keep in mind that they are a safety hazard when your child can reach it, and it should be removed. However, if you are looking to use it as entertainment or comfort for you baby I say skip the baby mobiles and go straight for the crib toys (more on them in my next post). Baby mobiles are definitely not a necessary baby thing, they just add a cute finishing touch for about six months or so.
