The first time you give your new baby a bath is a milestone moment. We took pictures and video to mark the occasion for all three of our children. The first baths you will give your baby will simply be sponge baths. The reason for this is you cannot let the stump of the umbilical cord get wet. So, until that stump falls off keep your baby out of the water.

Shopping for newborn clothes before your baby comes is probably one of the best shopping experiences you will have. Everything is sooooo cute! It is so hard to pick only a few outfits, but I advise you ONLY pick out a FEW. Otherwise, there is a good chance that most of those clothes are just going to look cute in your baby’s closet.
A newborn baby may need to have his/her diaper changed up to 12 times a day. That can equal a lot of diapers. Now you have to decide between cloth diapers and disposable diapers.
Diaper bags are an absolute must have baby item. You will need to bring a whole list of supplies with you every time you take the baby out. There are a couple of brands that make laundry detergent specifically for your baby. Baby laundry detergents usually have no scent to them or they have a very mild soft sent that is usually associated with baby smells. They are also usually made with less ingredients than normal laundry detergents, that way they are less irritating for the baby’s skin. However, they are also usually more expensive than other laundry detergents.
One morning when I was pregnant with my first I was watching The Today Show. They were doing a segment on this book called, “Baby Bargains” written by Denise and Alan Fields. It is a book that rates the different brands for just about any baby product you can think of and compares prices. The authors are a couple who have gone around the country checking out all the different baby products that they could find. They really look at the quality and safety values for the price and them rate them in their book, so that you can get good safe products for your baby and not spend a fortune.
Since your baby will need a place to sleep, I figured I would talk about cribs today. I recommend that you buy a new crib. You probably should not take a hand me down or purchase a used one. This is a matter of your baby’s safety. You could possibly be missing one small screw or other part that could cause problems or the crib may be so old that it does not meet the safety standards. Not to mention cribs have changed a lot in the past 2 years.
